In this Update:
Veterans Community Day Planned at DACCDACC will host a Veterans Community Day on Friday, Nov. 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to connect local veterans and their families with information, resources and support. About a dozen organizations and service providers are expected to participate, including representatives from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs and other local and regional organizations serving veterans. Veterans will have an opportunity to speak directly with participating organizations, ask questions and learn more about services available to them and their families. Additional details will be announced as the event approaches. VA Announces Three-Month VGLI Premium HolidayThe U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs announced that Veterans enrolled in Veterans’ Group Life Insurance (VGLI) will receive a three-month premium holiday beginning in November. Eligible policyholders will not have to pay VGLI premiums for November 2026 through January 2027. The VA estimates the change will save more than 457,000 participating Veterans nearly $150 million nationwide, with the average policyholder saving about $330. Veterans are eligible if their VGLI policy is current and has not lapsed or been canceled for nonpayment. Eligible Veterans will receive notice from the VA by mail or email, and no action is required to receive the premium holiday. Veterans who already paid premiums covering the three-month period may receive a credit toward their policy or request a refund. The SVC advises the adjutant general and the DMVA on all matters related to the status, welfare, benefits, employment and support of veterans and veterans’ programs in Pennsylvania. The public is welcome to attend the meeting either by phone or virtually.
Accelerating Access to Veterans’ Benefits and Employment OpportunitiesUnder a recent executive order, federal agencies must update their technology systems and policies to give veterans quicker access to the benefits they earned through their military service. The Accelerating Access to Veterans’ Benefits and Employment Opportunities Executive Order directs the Departments of War and Veterans Affairs to improve their sharing of military personnel and medical records from the time an individual enlists until they no longer require veterans’ benefits. They must also streamline the application process for and access to benefits for veterans. The order also requires updates of the Transition Assistance Program and other veteran workforce programs to ensure service members leaving active military service are either connected to a job or enrolled in career and technical education, as well as connected with appropriate veterans’ representatives to assist them with applying for healthcare, disability, home loan, job placement or education benefits.
