Join Me for a Teletown Hall on September 9th

I will be hosting a telephone townhall on Tuesday, September 9, at 5 p.m. This event will give me the opportunity to share district and legislative updates while also hearing directly from you.

Participants will be able to ask questions, raise concerns, and receive responses live during the call.

Residents who wish to ensure they receive a call can sign up at senatorculver.com/access-live

This is an important way for me to stay connected to you, and I encourage everyone to take part in the discussion.

Supporting Our Neighbors During Hunger Action Month

September is Hunger Action Month, a time to raise awareness about food insecurity and support families in need across our communities.

Throughout the month, my district offices will be collecting unexpired, non-perishable food items. All donations will be distributed to local food banks to help ensure that families have access to nutritious meals.

Constituents can drop off donations during regular business hours (8:00am -4:00pm) at any of my district offices:

  • Bloomsburg: 160 W. 6th Street, Bloomsburg, PA 17815 | 570-784-3464

Attorney General Dave Sunday recently announced progress following the outside interruption that caused outages in the Office of Attorney General’s servers earlier this month.

  • Most staff members now have email access and can be reached at info@attorneygeneral.gov.
  • Callers may contact the Constituent Services team at 717-787-3391.
  • Complaints may also be filed at www.attorneygeneral.gov, although processing delays may occur.

For contractors under the Home Improvement Consumer Protection Act:

  • Online registration and renewals are not currently available.
  • Printable applications and instructions are now accessible on the Home Improvement Contractor resource webpage.
  • A 30-day grace period will be granted for registrations and renewals once the online system is restored.
  • Questions can be directed to 717-772-2425.

Consumers are not currently able to confirm contractor registration status, but updates will continue as the system comes back online.

Improving Health Care

The Senate approved several measures this year to improve the delivery of health care in our communities.

Among the new bills signed into law was a measure establishing a statewide stroke registry to deliver vital information to EMS providers and hospitals, ensuring the best treatment possible. Other laws aim to reduce overdose deaths by incorporating real-time reporting by EMS providers into the statewide overdose mapping system and giving EMS personnel permanent authority to leave behind a dose of naloxone at overdose scenes, placing this lifesaving medication in the hands of a caregiver or loved one.

Critical measures passed by the Senate and awaiting action in the House of Representatives include bills to strengthen Pennsylvania’s no-cost breast cancer screening law by ensuring diagnostic imaging is fully covered, and preserving prescription drug coverage for more than 10,000 seniors.

Veterans Assistance Available in Our District

I want to make veterans in our community aware of the services available to help navigate benefits and resources through the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA).

A Veterans Service Officer is available to provide assistance with:

  • VA disability compensation and pensions
  • Education benefits
  • VA health care enrollment
  • Burial benefits
  • Survivor benefits
  • Other veterans’ programs and services

This is a free service available to all veterans and their families to ensure they receive the benefits they have earned through their service.

For more information or to schedule an appointment, please call my district office at 570-743-1918 or visit senatorculver.com

New Law Streamlines Fishing Licenses for Disabled Veterans

In case you missed it in my recent News for Veterans, a new law we passed earlier this year is now in effect removing the annual fishing license fee and application for veterans with 100% disability.

Previously, only those disabled veterans with a 100% permanent disability determination from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs could receive free lifetime fishing licenses. Disabled veterans with a 100% disability determination also receive free licenses but must apply for them on an annual basis.

Act 21 of 2025 takes away the annual fee and application part of the process and allows all disabled veterans with a 100% disability determination, whether or not it is a permanent determination, to purchase free lifetime fishing licenses.

Pennsylvania’s School Bus Stopping Law

Students are back in class, so we all need to be on the lookout for children around school buses and bus stops.

Some reminders about Pennsylvania’s School Bus Stopping Law:

  • Motorists must stop at least 10 feet away from school buses that have their red lights flashing and stop arm activated.
  • Motorists must stop when they are behind a bus, meeting the bus or approaching an intersection where a bus is stopped.
  • Motorists following or traveling alongside a school bus must also stop until the red lights have stopped flashing, the stop arm is withdrawn and all children have reached safety.

School districts are permitted to install automated camera systems on buses to enforce the law. You can find more information about the law and penalties, and safety tips for children, here.

Happy Labor Day

Labor Day is a time to celebrate the workers who make our communities thrive while providing for their families. No matter what your vocation or whether you’re an active employee or a retiree, I hope you enter this last stretch of summer with a wonderful holiday weekend.
