HARRISBURG – Sen. Lynda Schlegel Culver (R-27) and Rep. Robert Leadbeter (R-109) today announced a $100,000 state grant was awarded to help improve Bloomsburg Town Park.
“This state grant will reinvest Marcellus Shale impact fee revenue in our local community,” Culver said. “The grant money will help improve Bloomsburg Town Park, which brings generations of residents together to enjoy outdoor recreational activities. The state money will ensure this project can be funded without placing any additional burden on local taxpayers.”
The Town of Bloomsburg was awarded a $100,000 state grant to develop and rehabilitate the court at Bloomsburg Town Park. The grant is being provided through the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program. The program provides grants of up to $250,000 and requires the applicant to fund 15% of the total project cost.
“Outdoor recreation is a vital piece of community and family growth in the 109th District,” said Leadbeter. “The foundation of Columbia County is based on strong conservative values, and these grant dollars will continue to enhance our family values and the appreciation and access of the outdoors for years to come.”
Funding the program is provided through the 2012 law establishing an impact fee on Marcellus Shale natural gas wells.
The grant was awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA). The CFA was created in 2004 as an independent agency of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development to administer the commonwealth’s economic stimulus packages.
