HARRISBURG – Sen. Lynda Schlegel Culver (R-27) and Rep. David Rowe (R-85) today announced two grants totaling $123,850 have been awarded for water infrastructure projects in Perry and Washington townships.
“These grants help ensure the costs for these important projects don’t fall on the backs of local taxpayers,” Culver said. “I am pleased to see federal, state and local officials working together to deliver these projects for local residents. Water infrastructure projects ensure residents and businesses continue to have access to these vital services.”
The two grants are being funded with money from the federal COVID-19 American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) that is disbursed through the H20 PA Program:
- Perry Township Municipal Authority was awarded $43,850 to improve its water treatment system.
- Freeburg Municipal Authority will receive $80,000 for membrane system rehabilitations in Washington Township.
The grants were awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA). The CFA was created in 2004 as an independent agency of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development to administer the commonwealth’s economic stimulus packages.
“Commonwealth Financing Authority grants provide much needed support for local infrastructure projects that benefit our communities,” Rowe said. “I am glad to see our tax dollars being reinvested locally to ensure access to the wastewater services residents rely on.”
The SWS Program provides grants for small water, sewer, and storm water infrastructure projects. Municipalities and municipal authorities that own and maintain a public water supply, sanitary sewer or storm water systems are eligible to apply as long as their projects exceed a total cost of $30,000.
