Culver to Host Elder Abuse Awareness Press Conference June 9

Senator Lynda Schlegel Culver News Release

HARRISBURG – Sen. Lynda Schlegel Culver (R-27), together with Journey to Justice, will host an Elder Abuse Awareness press conference on Tuesday, June 9, at 9:30 a.m. in the Main Rotunda of the Pennsylvania Capitol Building.

Held in advance of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on June 15, the press conference will bring together legislators and advocates to highlight the growing need to protect older adults from abusers, who are often trusted caregivers.

The event will include discussion of Alice’s Law, legislation to establish an Elder Abuse Registry, as well as related legislation to hold abusers accountable and protect care-dependent older Pennsylvanians.

“Older Pennsylvanians deserve to live with dignity, safety and respect,” Culver said. “This event will bring together advocates, families and lawmakers to focus on stronger protections and greater awareness of elder abuse.”

Alice’s Law is inspired by Alice Longenberger, whose story has helped bring attention to the need for stronger safeguards for older adults and care-dependent individuals.

The press conference will be held Tuesday, June 9, at 9:30 a.m. in the Main Rotunda of the Pennsylvania Capitol Building.
