HARRISBURG – Sen. Lynda Schlegel Culver (R-27) today announced more than $6.5 million in state grant funding has been approved for infrastructure, public safety and community improvement projects throughout the region.
The funding was approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) through the Local Share Account (LSA) Statewide program and will support projects in Columbia, Luzerne, Montour, Northumberland and Snyder counties.
“These grants help our municipalities and community organizations move forward with projects that can otherwise place a significant burden on local budgets,” Culver said. “The projects receiving funding address a wide range of needs, including public safety, roads and bridges, wastewater infrastructure and community facilities. I appreciate the work our local officials and organizations put into identifying these needs and developing strong applications.”
Other area legislators also highlighted the impact of the funding throughout the district.
“Bringing these critical resources back to Columbia County is about making a real difference in the communities we call home,” said Rep. Robert Leadbeter. “These investments will go a long way toward addressing local needs, strengthening our communities and improving the quality of life for residents, families and seniors.”
“This funding will support multiple crucial projects across the 108th District,” said Rep. Michael Stender. “These grants will support our police, our schools, our infrastructure and two local swimming pools. I was proud to support these projects and know they will benefit our communities across Northumberland and Montour counties.”

Local Share Account Projects Awarded Funding
Columbia County
- Berwick Borough: $266,654 to assist with the purchase and upfitting of police vehicles.
- Briar Creek Borough: $39,046 to assist with expansion of the concession stand at Ber-Vaughn Pool.
- Catawissa Borough: $59,306 for emergency preparedness and public information signage.
- Catawissa Borough: $92,492 to assist with the purchase of a police cruiser.
- Catawissa Borough Municipal Authority: $58,984 to assist with the purchase of a backhoe loader.
- Catawissa Borough Municipal Authority: $76,610 to assist with replacement of the Reservoir No. 2 roof.
- Columbia County: $250,000 to assist with the benched floodplain phase of the West End Flood Mitigation Project.
- DRIVE, on behalf of The Salvation Army Berwick Corps: $62,548 to assist with the purchase of a vehicle.
- Fishing Creek Township: $67,200 to assist with renovations to the municipal building.
- Orange Township: $51,062 to assist with decommissioning of the existing Mount Pleasant wastewater treatment plant.
- Orangeville Borough: $75,000 to assist with purchase of a backhoe.
Luzerne County
- Black Creek Township: $114,522 to assist with the purchase of a new road patching machine.
- Black Creek Township, on behalf of the Nuremberg-Weston Volunteer Fire Company: $75,000 to assist with purchase of protective gear and equipment.
- Conyngham Township: $150,000 to assist with rehabilitation of the Turtle Creek flood protection system.
- Redevelopment Authority of Luzerne County, on behalf of the Greater Wyoming Valley Area YMCA: $225,000 to assist with construction of a new dining lodge at Camp Kresge in Dennison Township. The proposed 6,000-square-foot lodge will include a commercial kitchen, accessible restrooms and climate-controlled dining space, enabling the YMCA to serve an additional 4,200 children annually through its feeding programs and expand after-school programming. Located in Sen. Argall’s district, the camp serves the greater Luzerne County region, including residents of the 27th Senatorial District.
- Wright Township: $463,500 to assist the Wright Township Volunteer Firemen’s Association with the purchase of a new fire engine.
Montour County
- Anthony Township: $218,700 to assist with reconstruction of Waltimyer Road.
- Danville Borough: $315,509 to assist with a pedestrian bridge project.
- Montour County: $225,000 to assist with a countywide emergency warning system using rain and stream gauges, cameras and audible alerts to provide early warnings of flooding and other disasters, including for residents without regular access to phones or other technology.
- Valley Township: $47,000 to assist with improvements to the Sunnybrook Park concession stand.
- Valley Township, on behalf of Valley Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 1: $143,994 to assist with the purchase of a new brush truck.
Northumberland County
- DRIVE, on behalf of The Salvation Army Sunbury Corps: $61,970 to assist with the purchase of a vehicle.
- Kulpmont Borough: $71,139 to assist with the purchase of a police vehicle.
- Marion Heights Borough: $123,826 to assist with replacement of a municipal vehicle.
- Milton Borough, on behalf of the Milton YMCA: $196,210 to assist with facility renovations.
- Milton Borough: $72,000 to assist with the purchase of a police vehicle.
- Point Township: $132,323 to assist with the purchase of patrol vehicles.
- Shamokin Redevelopment Authority: $192,926 to assist with upgrades for the Shamokin Police Department.
- Shamokin Township: $175,000 to assist with the purchase of a new plow truck.
- Sunbury City: $450,000 to assist with road reconstruction and drainage improvements on Memorial Drive and North 7th Street.
- Watsontown Borough: $36,000 to assist with purchase of playground equipment for Memorial Park.
- West Chillisquaque Township: $100,000 to assist with purchase of a dump truck and accessories.
Snyder County
- Center Township, on behalf of the Penns Creek Volunteer Fire Company: $400,000 to assist with renovation and expansion of the fire hall.
- Chapman Township: $200,000 to assist with the purchase of tractor and mower equipment.
- McClure Municipal Authority: $175,000 to assist with wastewater treatment plant upgrades.
- Middleburg Municipal Authority: $147,988 to assist with purchase of a skid steer and pickup truck.
- Penn Township: $178,750 to assist with purchase of a wheel loader.
- Perry Township, on behalf of Fremont Fire Department: $299,625 to assist with the purchase of an ambulance.
- West Beaver Township: $345,400 to assist with construction of a salt shed.
- West Perry Township: $71,000 to assist with the purchase of a skid loader for township road maintenance.
Funding for the projects was approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority and is administered through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development.
