Culver Announces State Grant to Extend Natural Gas Service, Support Economic Development in Northumberland County

state funding for local project

HARRISBURG — Sen. Lynda Schlegel Culver (R-27) today announced a state grant was awarded to extend natural gas service to the Boyd Station facility in Rush Township, Northumberland County.

“This project is essential to sustaining and growing a business that is foundational to our state’s agricultural sector,” Culver said. “I was proud to support this important effort, which will create new family-sustaining jobs and encourage more economic growth in Northumberland County.”

Boyd Station, a leading agricultural business specializing in producing animal feed protein ingredients and food-grade vegetable oils, received $1.5 million to install 9,000 feet of pipeline to provide natural gas service to their facility. The project eliminates the current reliance on propane and will ensure a reliable energy supply for the site. Additionally, Boyd Station anticipates the project will allow for the creation of 25 new positions over the next three years, adding to the current 90 positions.

Funding for the project was approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority and was awarded through the Pipeline Investment Program, which is administered through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED). The program provides grants to construct the last few miles of natural gas distribution lines to business parks, existing manufacturing and industrial enterprises, supporting the creation of new jobs and the growth of Pennsylvania’s economy.
