SHAMOKINSen. Lynda Schlegel Culver (R-27) and Rep. Joanne Stehr (R-107) will host a license plate replacement event on Tuesday, July 21, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Rep. Stehr’s district office, 300 E. Independence St., Shamokin.

The event will help drivers with damaged or illegible Pennsylvania license plates begin the process of applying for a free replacement plate through PennDOT.

“Damaged or hard-to-read license plates can create issues for drivers and law enforcement,” Culver said. “This event is a convenient opportunity for residents to have their plate reviewed, complete the necessary paperwork and begin the replacement process at no cost if their plate qualifies.”

PennDOT allows vehicle owners to apply for a free replacement when their registration plate is determined to be illegible. Plates may become difficult to read because of peeling, blistering, discoloration or loss of reflectivity.

Drivers attending the event should bring the vehicle with the affected plate, current vehicle registration and their driver’s license. Law enforcement will be on site to review plates and complete the required sign-off, which is needed before PennDOT can process a free replacement plate request.

Participants may sign up in advance by calling Representative Stehr’s district office at 570-648-8017.
