HARRISBURG – Sen. Lynda Schlegel Culver (R-27) and Rep. Justin Fleming (D-105) welcomed over 150 scouts from across Pennsylvania to the state Capitol on Monday for Scouting America’s annual Report to the Commonwealth.

The ceremony, held in the rotunda, highlighted the service, leadership development, civic engagement and community contributions of Scouting America throughout Pennsylvania.

“Scouting continues to provide young people with meaningful opportunities to serve, lead and grow,” Culver said. “It is an honor to host this event every year to celebrate the accomplishments of Scouting America in Pennsylvania.”

Emcee G. Maximilian Miller from Gibsonia, was joined by Liam Molinari from Telford, a Life Scout and Chaplain Aide, who provided the prayer; Jackson Justice from West Chester, who led attendees in the Pledge of Allegiance; and Lyla Broaded, a Star Scout who led the Scout Oath and Law.

Copies of the Report were presented to Speaker of the House Joanna McClinton, as well as to Culver and Fleming.

Highlights from the Report include:

  • Scouting America serves 45,370 Pennsylvania youth, supported by tens of thousands of trained adult volunteers.
  • Those youth are part of 2,188 local units, embedded in schools, churches and community organizations.
  • 25,191 Cub Scouts are building foundational skills in teamwork, confidence and character.
  • 1,687 Scouts earned Scouting’s highest honor—the Eagle Scout Award

Following the ceremony, the Scouts were granted permission to participate in Senate Session with Molinari serving as Guest Chaplain and Sam VanNorman from Hellertown leading the Pledge of Allegiance. Together, they then presented a copy of the Report to Senator Kim Ward, Senate President Pro Tempore, and led the Scouts in the Scout Oath and Law.

“Scouts represent values of service, leadership and citizenship,” Culver said. “Their commitment to both personal growth and helping their communities is worth celebrating, and I am grateful for the opportunity to recognize their contributions here at the Capitol.”
