
HARRISBURG – Sen. Lynda Schlegel Culver (R-27) today announced more than $1.38 million in state grant funding has been awarded to Luzerne County municipalities within the 27th Senatorial District through the Local Share Account (LSA) Luzerne program.
The funding was approved today by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) and will support projects ranging from emergency services and road resurfacing to streambank restoration and recreational upgrades.
“These investments reflect the real needs of our communities,” Culver said. “I’m grateful that this funding will help municipalities in Luzerne County make practical, long-term improvements that benefit residents and support local infrastructure. It’s always encouraging to see state resources returning to our region in ways that have real, visible impact.”
Awarded projects include:
- Black Creek Township: $97,428 for the purchase of a skid steer and attachments for road maintenance.
- Butler Township: $180,000 to purchase a dump/plow truck to support winter operations and roadwork.
- Conyngham Borough: $75,000 for streambank restoration at Whispering Willows Park.
- Conyngham Township: $63,558 to purchase road maintenance equipment, including a skid steer and attachments.
- Fairview Township: $60,000 for the purchase of a maintenance vehicle for park and road upkeep.
- Huntington Township: $87,740 to resurface Hortop Road with new asphalt and shoulders.
- Nescopeck Township: $45,075 to replace the roof and renovate damaged floors of the township office building.
- Rice Township: $61,987 to pave and repair 3.25 miles of roadway in the Laurel Lakes development.
- Shickshinny Borough (Sanitary Sewer Authority): $40,000 for renovations at the wastewater treatment plant.
- Slocum Township (on behalf of Volunteer Fire Co.): $160,000 for sitework and design for a new fire station.
- Sugarloaf Township: $160,000 for the final phase of the Joe Larock Recreation Field rehabilitation.
- Wright Township: $350,000 for repairs and resurfacing on Terrace Drive and Oak Drive.
Funding for these projects was made available through gaming revenue generated in Luzerne County and distributed through the LSA program administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED).
