Senator Culver Appointed to Key Committees

HARRISBURG – Sen. Lynda Schlegel Culver (R-27) announced her committee assignments for the 2025-26 legislative session.

Following her previously announced appointment as Chair of the Senate Education Committee, Culver will also serve as Vice Chair of the Health & Human Services Committee, which she was a member of in the 2023-24 session, and she returns  to the Aging & Youth, Intergovernmental Operations, and Appropriations Committees.  New for this session, Culver joins the Consumer Protection & Professional Licensure and Local Government Committees.

“I am deeply honored with these committee assignments,” said Culver. “They align with a number of policy initiatives I have championed in the Senate and as a member of the House of Representatives and that I will continue to advocate for in the new session.”

Culver has been a leader on afterschool funding and elder abuse, and she is sponsoring legislation to improve career and technical education equipment grants. She also has proposals for providing a tax benefit to living organ donors, licensing recreational therapists and radiological imaging professionals, and she is the co-prime on bills to establish a Childcare Workforce Commission and to allow family caregivers to be certified as Complex Care Assistants.

“The committee process is a necessary component for vetting and if needed, improving bills to be sent to the full Senate and then to the House for consideration,” said Culver. “Serving on these important committees allows me to be part of the early decision making on a wide range of consequential pieces of legislation.”

The Education and Human Services line items make up roughly 80% of the state budget, so Culver’s positions as Chair of the Education Committee and Vice Chair of the Health & Human Services Committee will be beneficial as a returning member of the Appropriations Committee when budget hearings begin in February.

“I look forward to what is to come in the new session and with these committee assignments,” said Culver. “There is a lot to be done for the people of Pennsylvania and my constituents in the 27th District, and I am eager to continue this important work.”
