HARRISBURG – Sen. Lynda Schlegel Culver (R-27) took the oath of office today to begin a full term representing the people of the 27th District in the Pennsylvania Senate.
Culver was initially elected by voters in a January 2023 special election to fill the vacancy left by the departure of former Sen. John Gordner. She was re-elected to a four-year term in November 2024.
“It was an honor to be elected to the state Senate in 2023, and I am humbled by the vote of confidence constituents showed in 2024 by sending me back to Harrisburg. I am their voice in the Capitol, and their concerns are my concerns,” Culver said.
Culver was previously elected to serve seven terms representing the people in the 108th District in the state House of Representatives, after serving for more than 20 years as the staff leader in the office of former state Rep. Merle Phillips.
In her first two years in the Senate, Culver sponsored several pieces of legislation signed into law including measures to help protect domestic animals and the food supply against dangerous transmissible diseases; enable licensed practical nurses working in a hospice setting to make death pronouncements, alleviating wait times that grieving families often experience; and reform the structure of a state board responsible for policy analysis and data oversight related to weather maps, traffic and accident data, emergency responses and other geospatial information.
Committee assignments for the 2025-26 legislative session have not yet been announced, but Culver is in line to chair a committee in the new session. In the 2023-24 legislative session, she served on the Appropriations, Aging and Youth, Finance, Health and Human Services, Intergovernmental Operations, Law and Justice, and Urban Affairs and Housing committees.
“A new session brings a fresh start and an opportunity to achieve even more both legislatively and in the district. I look forward to working hard for the people of the 27th and taking on the issues that are important to them,” Culver said.
The 27th District includes Columbia, Montour, Northumberland, and Snyder County, as well as parts of Luzerne County.
