HARRISBURG – Sen. Lynda Schlegel Culver (R-27) today announced $620,000 in state grants have been awarded for projects to benefit residents in Columbia County.
The grants were awarded through the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s (CFA) Local Share Account (LSA) Program, which funds projects concerning the public interest, community improvement and economic development using gaming money generated by casinos.
“The state works as a partner with local communities by providing financial resources to move projects forward,” Culver said. “I’m pleased to see these state dollars coming to Columbia County for a variety of projects that will benefit local residents.”
Grant recipients include:
- Berwick Borough received $93,000 to renovate a room in the Berwick Theater and Center for Community Arts building.
- Bloomsburg Town received $200,000 for a new aircraft hangar at the Bloomsburg Municipal Airport.
- Briar Creek Township received $27,000 to update its police reporting system and purchase five laptop computers for vehicles and four desktop computers for the office.
- Columbia County received $300,000 on behalf of Bloomsburg Children’s Museum to acquire land and design a building in Scott Township as part of its plan to move from its current facility to Columbia Business Park.
The CFA is an independent agency of the Department of Community and Economic Development that administers many of Pennsylvania’s economic development and community improvement programs.
