HARRISBURG – Sen. Lynda Schlegel Culver (R-27) and Rep. David Rowe (R-85) today announced nearly $90,000 in state grant funding has been awarded to make improvements to Faylor Lake in Snyder County.
“Faylor Lake is a regional asset providing outdoor recreational opportunities for children and adults from our area,” Culver said. “This state grant will enhance the experience offered to Faylor Lake visitors. The state grant funding for this project will improve the overall quality of our region without placing any additional burden on local taxpayers.”
Snyder County will receive nearly $90,000 to pay for an equine trail, boardwalk and observation deck at Faylor Lake. The grant is being provided through the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program. The program provides grants of up to $250,000 and requires the applicant to fund 15% of the total project cost.
“These awards highlight some of the many assets that make Snyder County and the 85th District such a great place to live, work and raise a family,” said Rowe. “From outdoor recreation to a robust agriculture industry, these awards will go a long way toward boosting our state and local economy.”
Funding the program is provided through the 2012 law establishing an impact fee on Marcellus Shale natural gas wells.
The grant was awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA). The CFA was created in 2004 as an independent agency of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development to administer the commonwealth’s economic stimulus packages.
Culver and Rowe also announced two loans have been approved through the DCED First Industries Fund (FIF) totaling $625,000.
“These loans are an investment in Pennsylvania’s No. 1 industry, agriculture, and will promote growth in our local economy,” Culver said. “These loans enable local farms to grow and compete in the marketplace.”
One $400,000 loan has been awarded to the Small Enterprise Development Agency Council of Governments (SEDA-COG) to acquire a 99-acre farm at 460 Mount Zion Road in Monroe Township, Juniata County.
Another $225,000 loan has been awarded to SEDA-COG to acquire a 74-acre farm at 906 Blue Hill Drive in Monroe Township, Snyder County.
FIF loans can be used to buy land, acquire or construct buildings, purchase or upgrade machinery and equipment, or increase working capital.
