Bloomsburg Fair Media Day

I was happy to join Bloomsburg Fair Media Day at the fairgrounds to help preview this year’s attractions and upcoming events.

The Bloomsburg Fair is a tradition that brings together families, businesses, and visitors from across Pennsylvania. Each year it is inspiring to see the hard work and preparation that go into making the fair such a special experience for the community. From the exhibits to the food stands to the entertainment, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

The Bloomsburg Fair is from September 19 – September 27, 2025 and you can buy tickets here.

Thank you to the organizers, commissioners, media members, and everyone involved for their commitment to showcasing one of our region’s most cherished traditions. I look forward to seeing many of you at the fair this year.

New Bloomsburg Office Open House and Mobile Pantry Celebration

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Open House and Ribbon Cutting at my new Bloomsburg District Office in the HUB at Mulberry Mill.

It was wonderful to welcome community members, partners, and neighbors into our new space. This location allows us to serve constituents in a more accessible setting, surrounded by strong organizations like Central Susquehanna Opportunities (CSO), which has been leading efforts to expand food access across our region.

I was also happy to join CSO in celebrating the one-year anniversary of their Mobile Food Pantry and the unveiling of their new Mini Mobile Pantry. This milestone reflects the impact of partnerships and the generosity of those who support families in need. To learn more and see the schedule of upcoming Mobile Pantry dates, visit csocares.org/food

I am grateful for the warm welcome and look forward to continuing to serve you from this new office.

Eliminating Waste and Fraud in State Government

Reforming the way state government operates includes removing barriers to creating good jobs and preventing fraud and waste of taxpayer dollars.

This year, we passed legislation to implement stricter oversight to block regulations that will cost employers or taxpayers more than $1 million and require automatic review of these kinds of regulations after three years to ensure they remain in the public interest

Other bills passed by the Senate require the Department of Human Services to prevent fraud in public assistance, prevent dead people from receiving benefits and ensure unemployment compensation benefits don’t go to claimants who try to avoid work. To reduce the risk of data breaches in taxpayer-funded systems, we passed legislation requiring all state IT contracts to meet national cybersecurity standards.

You can review all the notable bills we’ve passed in 2025 here

Boaters Encouraged to “Keep Going” This Fall

As we wrap up the summer season and head into the cooler months, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) is reminding anglers and boaters to keep enjoying Pennsylvania’s waterways.

Whether you prefer fishing, paddling, or simply spending time outdoors, fall is a great time to be on the water. Cooler weather often means less crowded lakes and streams, and it can also bring excellent fishing opportunities.

The PFBC encourages boaters to continue following all safety guidelines as the seasons change and to make the most of the time we have on the water. You can read more in their full announcement here

Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful: Volunteer for Pick Up Pennsylvania

From September 1 through November 30, communities across Pennsylvania are invited to join Pick Up Pennsylvania, a statewide cleanup effort coordinated by Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful

Volunteers who register a cleanup will receive free trash bags, gloves, and safety vests provided by the Department of Environmental Protection, PennDOT, and the Ocean Conservancy, while supplies last. Both land and waterway cleanups are eligible, since much of the litter that reaches our rivers and oceans starts on land.

Anyone can get involved by registering a cleanup or joining an existing one at keeppabeautiful.org. Events registered with Pick Up Pennsylvania are also eligible for the 2025 Lens on Litter Photo Contest, which offers $500 prizes for one adult and one student winner. Details are available here

Jobs Available with PennDOT’s Winter Maintenance Program

As summer winds down, new job opportunities for those with the skills to maintain and clear Pennsylvania’s roadways in the winter with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT).

Positions and hourly pay include CDL equipment operator ($23), dispatcher ($17.38), diesel and automotive mechanic ($24.97 – $28.37 based on title), tradesman helper and semi-skilled laborer ($18.46), and more.

These temporary positions could be a pathway to a permanent PennDOT career. You can find more background information and links to job openings here

Help for Caregivers: PA CareKit

Caring for a loved one is a selfless act that strengthens family bonds but can be difficult for the caregiver. The PA CareKit can be a great help.

From the Pennsylvania Department of Aging, the PA CareKit is a collection of tools and information to help you manage stress, navigate the health care system, stay connected and find support.

Topics include the First Five Steps, Understanding Your Needs, Key Caregiving Terms and Concepts, and Caregiving Resources. If you’re a caregiver, I hope you find this information useful for this challenging but lifechanging role.

Learn Skills with the Pennsylvania Outdoor Corps

Residents ages 15 to 25 can learn new skills, gain job experience and improve public lands with the Pennsylvania Outdoor Corps.

Skills-building and training opportunities include infrastructure maintenance, habitat restoration, CPR, first aid and more.

Interested individuals can learn how to get paid fixing trails, planting trees and more here

National Crime Prevention Week

One of my key roles as a lawmaker is passing legislation to combat crime and keep our communities safe. We rely on police to enforce those laws and the justice system to impose punishment when appropriate.

National Crime Prevention Week is a reminder of the role citizens play in keeping their neighborhoods safe. The National Crime Prevention Council offers these crime prevention and personal safety tips to help you and your community outsmart potential lawbreakers.
